2007 Progressive Education Network Conference - San Francisco

Challenging Assumptions:
Revitalizing our Educational Vision for America

The revitalization of the Progressive Education Network (PEN) is vital to America as political leaders continue to create educational mandates that do not support curriculum that is tailored to the individual learning styles, developmental needs, and educational interests of the child. First formed in 1919 as The Association for the Advancement of Progressive Education, the organization played an influential role in American education reconstituted as the Progressive Educators Network. Through the decades, PEN has kept current with the changing trends in education and fought to preserve quality teaching for all children. In the early 1990s, grant money dried up and members of the Progressive Education network retreated to regional gatherings, their own schools, even their own classrooms. It is time for us to gather together once again, all of us from across the country, to be renewed and gain support from one another as we strive to teach children in meaningful ways in this test driven climate.
